Climate is breaking

      Ideal for school assemblies, this song laments our role in climate change.
      More positively, at the halfway point the lament transforms into a prayer for us to take the initiative and to act wisely and responsibly.
      It is specifically adapted from, and resonant with, the well-known song
      Morning has broken.

  1. Climate is breaking,
     nature is mourning;
     our minds are waking
     hearing earth's cries;
       weep at our world-view,
       weep for the warming,
       weep with our God who
       weeps from the skies.
  2. Our acid rain falls
     on every nation;
     greenhouse emissions
     round us amass.
       May we act rightly
       with God's creation;
       may we tread lightly
       where God's feet pass.
  3. Ours is this planet,
     ours is its future;
     ours, too, this climate,
     land, sea and air.
       God, wake us each day
       wise to its nurture;
       yours is the earth, may
       ours be its care.
